Happy Memorial Day! On this Memorial Day, I’d like you to meet Bryan Anderson, Army Sergeant who did two tours in Iraq. On that last tour in 2005, he lost both legs and a hand in and IED blast.
He came back to Walter Reed in San Antonio, did the usual recoup and rehab stay. He tried prosthetic legs, but they didn’t work out for him. So he went with your usual wheelchair. Until he become a spokesman for Quantum Rehab. Through that relationship, he helped the company come up with this new power chair design– the iLevel. This chair elevates the person in the chair to standing height and still drives as walking speeds while at standing height.
That’s HUGE. Did you watch the video? Not only are they at normal height when interacting with people, they are at normal heights to use fast food ordering counters, at a good height to wash the dishes, can browse grocery store shelves without assistance, and more! Just wow! That’s real life on wheels right there.
So as you enjoy your barbecue, first swim of the season and family on this Memorial Day, remember the purpose of this holiday: to never forget that freedom isn’t free.
In memory of Cpl. Philip McGeath, U.S. Marine Corps and Pfc. Chris Norris, U.S. Army who gave all. Gone, but never forgotten.
