I love using therapy animals as an adjunct to my treatment sessions. They break up the monotony of therapy and can provide an extra incentive to make functional movements, especially for the folk that are cognitively challenged. I wish we still had some at my facility. We had 1 therapy dog visit once when I first started and that was it. While I was in school, three different locations I was at on clinical rotations had therapy animals. Two locations at therapy dogs that came once a week and one of them was hippotherapy– therapy done on horseback! Oh yes, we do therapy on horseback sometimes! What other kinds of animals have you seen used therapeutically?
