Rebecca started of slow… I mean like a glacial snail. The snail unfroze when the setting moved to Manderley and then suddenly became a snail on speed about 2/3 through the book. However, I must say that I did enjoy the novel as whole. It reads like classic literature, which I personally enjoy, but at the same time had enough action (in the end) to appeal to a modern taste. Du Maurier thoroughly creeped me out with Rebecca as a character– just who was she really and the power she exuded from the grave…. gives me chills just thinking about it! Since the whole novel is set as a flashback, I think I will read it again, just to understand the beginning of the novel and therefore how the story ended better.
