I love this story. I had seen this video a while back and something today reminded me of it. So I thought I’d share it with you.
This story is so inspiring on so many levels. First of all, the technology at work here for wheelchair users is phenomenal. I dread teaching car transfers. They are difficult in the best of circumstances, but add in having to wrangle a wheelchair in the car with you? Near impossible without wearing out your arms and whacking yourself in the face with the chair. Trust me, I’ve tried it. It was a required lab session in my neuro class in PT school. This little car could be a game changer and bring community independence to lots of wheelchair users.
Second, I love that the found is also planning on using her own product. That tells me that there will be a lot of details that weren’t overlooked in this first edition car. The founder is self-invested– personally and financially– in seeing this venture succeed.
And lastly, the story of how the business almost wasn’t a business… multiple times. But things just kept happening to make it work. That sounds like a God thing to me.
Not to mention this company, Kenguru, is based in Texas, so how could I not love it even more?! haha
