Thank you, Samual Cohen. Alzheimer’s is NOT normal aging.
Let’s say that again.
Alzheimer’s is NOT normal aging!
The sentiment that dementia is a normal part of aging runs rampant not only with Joe Schmoe Public, but also in the medical community. I can’t tell you how many times a week I argue this point with co-workers. There is real pathophysiology that you can see on brain scans– decreased brain volume, holes like Swiss cheese, and those protein plaques and tangles. These are NOT normal. Senility is NOT normal.
We’re FINALLY making very small progress in understanding and moving toward a cure for this horrible disease that effects 1 in 2 people after over 100 years.
This is pathetic. We participate in drives to raise funds for cancer research all the time. Please consider participating in your local Walk to End Alzheimer’s and help raise more funds to find a cure for Alzheimer’s too. Or if there’s not one available in your area, consider starting one! The Alzheimer’s Association will help you! Click here for more information from the Alzheimer’s Association (Search your location, then click on Events in the left hand side menu to find a Walk.)
