EPA Science Under Scrutiny by Trump Political Staff as originally seen on Star Tribune
I try really hard to not let politics bleed over into this blog; however, I cannot stay silent on this. Please watch the below video.
Here are a few blurbs from that video that at important:
“You’re not entitled to your own facts.”
“We’ve lost faith in institutions, in authority, and sometimes in science itself, and there’s no reason we shouldn’t have. You can just say a few names and people will understand. Chernobyl, Bhopal, the Challenger, Vioxx, weapons of mass destruction, hanging chads. You know, you can choose your list. There are questions and problems with the people we used to believe were always right, so be skeptical. Ask questions, demand proof, demand evidence. Don’t take anything for granted. But here’s the thing: When you get proof, you need to accept the proof, and we’re not that good at doing that.”
“When you start down the road where belief and magic replace evidence and science, you end up in a place you don’t want to be. You end up in Thabo Mbeki South Africa. He killed 400,000 of his people by insisting that beetroot, garlic and lemon oil were much more effective than the antiretroviral drugs we know can slow the course of AIDS.”
Having ANY peer-reviewed scientific research “reviewed” for authenticity by people outside the field like President DT is requiring of the EPA right now is not only ridiculous, and insulting, it has been taken to a criminal level in my opinion as until these non-experts approve the research, it won’t be published. That is spitting in the face of the first amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America, which I believe DT swore to protect and uphold just a few days ago.
If he can do this to environmental research he doesn’t agree with, what’s to stop him from silencing other research areas that fly in the face of his own personal interests? We all know the reason he doesn’t want any research on climate change being caused by humans right? He is heavily personally invested in in big oil, which as been pointed at as a major culprit in pollution caused climate change. And it can’t get out that his investments are killing the planet. So the dissention must be silenced with “alternative facts.”
I am here to say that I’m a mad scientist and there is no room for your “alternative facts” in my science, DT. So get your policy writing pen out of my scientific research, before it gets shoved somewhere your tiny hands can’t reach.
I have called my representatives on Capitol Hill about this and I urge you to as well. This effects ANYONE who has EVER been the benefactor of scientific research. (If you live in the 21st century, that’s you.) Don’t know who to call? Click here to find out who your representatives are and how to contact them. Tell them you’re a mad scientist or backing the mad scientists and want politicians out of science. You can also pledge to participate in the Scientists’ March on Washington. The details are still being hashed out, but DT’s got the revenge of the nerds coming!
