My rating: 4 of 5 stars
In this fifth installment of the Millennium series, we have all the usual, dysfunctional characters that we love– Lisbeth Salander, Mikael Blomkvist, Holger Palmgreen, Sonja Modig– play staring roles. Other familiar characters such as Inspector Bublanski, Plague, Annika, Erika and the ever present Camilla ghost– also make appearances. This episode came closer to the original trilogy for me as far as tone and plot speed than the 4th did. I was slightly disappointed in the first of Lagercrantz’s attempts to continue Lisbeth’s adventures, but this one seems more in her vein. I loved the under current theme of medical racism. I’ve been meaning to learn more about this area for a while and was spurred to delve deeper. Unfortunately, the book I’ve had on my to-read list for a while on the topic is not available at my local library, so I’ll have to wait as my finances are a bit strained at the moment. But the prose was great. I had a hard time putting this one down at night. I hear there’s a 6th coming out this year, and I’m excited now!
